Maddison couldn’t resist poking fun

James Maddison couldn’t resist poking a bit of fun at Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold while on England duty together.

The Tottenham playmaker has been one of the standout performers this season and is a huge reason as to why Ange Postecoglou’s side enter the international break top of the Premier League.

Away from the pitch, Maddison is known for being a prankster and loves a laugh with his teammates and that didn’t stop as he shared an image of him and Alexander-Arnold at St George’s Park.

He captioned the post: “still asking for a replay” in reference to Liverpool’s recent VAR controversy.

Liverpool lost 2-1 at Tottenham in a game marred by controversy after Luis Diaz’s first-half strike was flagged off-side by the linesman.

Despite replays showing the Liverpool forward was onside, the video assistant referee (VAR) told referee Simon Hooper that the check was complete and no change should be made to the on-field decision.

Jurgen Klopp then called for the game to replayed in a press conference after the incident – a request which was rejected.

At the time he said: “The audio didn’t change it at all. It is an obvious mistake. There should be solutions for that. The outcome should be a replay. But it probably won’t happen.

“The argument against that would be it opens the gates. It is unprecedented. I’m used to wrong and difficult decisions, but something like this never happened.”

It seems now though that the tensions have settled down with players from both Tottenham and Liverpool a part of Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad ahead of games against Australia and Italy.
