Ivan Rakitic forced to flee family holiday home as it’s attacked by Croatian hooligans

Croatia 'supporters' have begun turning on their own people.

Ivan Rakitic has fallen victim to the latest bout of disorder from Croatian fans after he had his holiday home attacked. Croatian media, as reported by Spanish outlet AS, claim that the Barcelona midfielder was forced to cut his post-Euro 2016 vacation short due to the attack. It's understood that six young supporters began throwing stones at Rakitic's villa in Ugljan, smashing its windows before they broke down the front door. Rakitic and his family managed to escape but it makes for concerning reading. Just a fortnight ago, Croatia supporters drew Uefa's ire after the unseemly scenes that marred the country's 2-2 draw with the Czech Republic in the group stage of Euro 2016. In protest of Croatian football authorities, flares were thrown on to the playing surface and one steward was almost seriously injured. https://twitter.com/SportsJOEdotie/status/743869145540886529 That incident was followed by the worrying rumour that a group of Croatia fans were planning an attack on the referee in their final group game with Spain. Information leaked prior to kick-off that a violent pitch invasion was planned for the 30th minute but, thankfully, the rumoured attack never took place as a heavy police presence at the Croatia end of the ground meant that it would have been all but impossible for someone to take the field.
