That’s grand so.
There was us thinking that Fabian Delph was deceitful.
That he completely screwed over Aston Villa and the fans who rushed to hold him up as a modern day hero in a cruel, cold business.
Even that he put some of his admirers out of pocket in the six days before he decided to perform a complete U-turn after his name was printed at the back of new Villa jerseys and season tickets were renewed.
We even had a slight giggle when he went down on his first appearance for Manchester City after just 18 minutes and, as a consequence, will miss the start of the season at his new club.

Another look at Fabian Delph being stretchered off the pitch on his City debut yesterday. Looks like a nasty injury. pic.twitter.com/2n4weEHm0a

But perhaps all of our snide remarks were premature because there’s a perfectly good explanation as to why Delph decided to change his mind entirely and leave the club he called home.
His family.
Right?
“I did it for my family,” he said in what was an even bigger slap in the face to Villa fans.
“Everything changes once you have children. Your priorities change.”
Obviously, he had children in those six days between rejecting Man City and joining Man City.
“They are number one. Everything you do, every performance, every time I step on the pitch I want it to rub off well on my family and make them proud of me.”
Well, that’s that cleared up then.
You can read his full interview in the Mirror. There’s no point. That’s the best explanation he gives.
