Italian giants to offer Marouane Fellaini escape route from Manchester United

He has spent the past five years at Manchester United

Looks like he’s headed for the exit door.

Marouane Fellaini’s performance against Brighton on Friday night received a lot of criticism, a lot of it justified, but he was not the only player to have played badly. It was one of their worst showings of the season, lacking in creativity and imagination with the ball.

That’s not Fellaini’s game, in fairness. He’s never been creative with his feet, but always been effective with his head and his chest. Despite his effectiveness in certain situations though, he’ll probably be off this summer, after a five-year spell at Old Trafford.

It’s probably for the best. He can be an effective last resort but to play in midfield for Manchester United, that is not enough. His contract is up at the end of the season, so the big bad Belgian will be available on a free.

Besiktas have been linked in the recent past, but the newest team to join the race is AC Milan, according to Corriere dello SportThe Italian newspaper report that Milan have opened discussions over a possible transfer.

Milan spent big last summer, with relatively little reward. Gennaro Gattuso has done surprisingly well to turn the team’s form around but the season has still disappointed. It would be optimistic to expect Fellaini to drastically improve their fortune, but he would certainly be a threat, getting on the end of Hakan Çalhanoğlu’s set pieces.
