Meet the future Liverpool captain. He doesn’t like it when opposition players don’t pick on someone their own size.
Just like Roy Keane doesn’t let Patrick Vieira away with much, just like the former United skipper’s dedication to protecting his Gary Neville-like flock, Jordan Henderson will do the same.
The Liverpool midfielder seemingly has nothing personal against Chelsea striker Diego Costa but if you mess with his team mates, Hendo will call you on it.
He said that he didn’t like the way the Spanish international was treating some of the ‘Pool’s players and, in a gripping death stare, Henderson warned Costa with his eyes.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Henderson said he likes Costa’s aggression but he didn’t appreciate how he was trying to intimidate some of the Reds.
“I didn’t want to make any ‘statement’, it was just in that game, he was trying to intimidate some of our younger players, which I didn’t really like,” Henderson said.
“He’s a fantastic player that any team would want because of that passion and aggression he’s got. I just didn’t like the way he was doing things with our players.”
That’s now Henderson’s role. In the absence of Gerrard from the first team, he has the arm band, he is the leader.
“When Stevie hasn’t been there I just try to do the best I can for the team, encourage the players, lead by example,” he said. “In the summer that’s up to the manager. It would be an absolute honour to be captain. I’d love it.”
