In the week that the Republic of Ireland are getting ready to face Poland in a crucial Euro qualifier, we have high hopes for a man who might on the verge of breaking through to the senior squad. The last great Irish interest at Manchester City was Stephen Ireland, but let’s hope that things run a little smoother for Jack Byrne.

The 18-year-old has been a star of the Manchester City youth side for the last number of months and has scored some cracking goals in Europe for the Citizens.  And if you fancy getting to know him a little bit better than we advise you to take a look at this documentary.

At a time when so few of our Irish underage players are at the top clubs in England, and have a chance of breaking through, this feature is a refreshing insight into the inner workings of what it takes to make an impression. It looks at his development in Ireland with St Kevins and how he coped with the move across the water and how far he thinks he can go under current youth coach Patrick Viera. It also features some of his fantastic strikes this season which is another reason to have a look:
