Irish qualified goal-machine Scott Hogan scores season’s quickest goal… then keeps going

Hogan's back!

Ben Kiely

Scott Hogan was back at his goal-scoring best for Brentford on Saturday.

Hogan had been on a four-game dry spell after starting off the season as one of the in-form strikers in the Premiership.

Any fears that the sharpshooter was going to be off the mark for the Bees’ Championship encounter against Blackburn were quickly put to rest.

When we say quickly, we mean it too. 33 seconds after taking part in the kick-off, Hogan got on the end of a quality through ball from Lasse Vibe to slot the ball into the bottom left corner of the net with his right boot.

Unsurprisingly, the goal meant that the Manchester man, who qualifies for Ireland through his grandparents, was the quickest off the draw this season. His 33-second goal was the quickest the league has seen so far this season.

And he wasn’t done yet.

A brace from Danny Graham saw Rovers take a 2-1 lead, but Hogan must have thought to himself, ‘Anything Graham can do, I can do also’  as he fired level on the 30-minute mark with another right-footed goal into the bottom left. This time Hogan was played in by former Arsenal man Nico Yennaris.

Unfortunately for Brentford, nine minutes later the game Harlee Dean’s own goal saw them go trailing again. This proved to be the decisive goal in the match as it bagged Rovers all three points.

Although it was a disappointing result, Hogan was the stand-out performer for Brentford and he was the talk of Twitter following his brace.
