Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the Nations League game between Ireland and Armenia.
The Republic of Ireland take on Ukraine in their second Uefa Nations League game on Wednesday evening.
Here is everything you need to know about the game, including squad news, form, and TV channel details.
Who are Ireland playing against?
Stephen Kenny’s side host Ukraine at the Aviva Stadium in their first home game of the Nations League campaign.
Ukraine are currently ranked 25th in the FIFA world rankings and come into the match after Sunday’s 1-0 Playoff final defeat to Wales for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Oleksandr Petrakov’s side beat Scotland 3-1 at Hampden Park last week in the playoff semi-final for the World Cup following a second-place finish in their qualification campaign.
They have three Premier League players in their ranks including Oleksandr Zinkchenko, Andriy Yarmaloenko, and Vitaliy Mykolenko.
This is the first meeting between Ireland and Ukraine. The match is the second of four in 11 days for Kenny’s side in the group as the reverse fixture takes place on Tuesday the 14th of June.
Ireland’s form going into the match against Ukraine.
Kenny’s side come into the match on the back of a 1-0 loss to Armenia in Yerevan on Saturday. The defeat ends a seven-match unbeaten run for the Boys in Green.
Ireland were not clinical in the final third as they had 13 shots against Armenia. The Boys in Green, who are ranked 47th in the world, were kept goalless despite having 68 per cent of possession.
Ukraine and Scotland represent a tough challenge for Ireland as they both have a higher world ranking. Kenny’s team will need to win points against the pair if they are to avoid becoming involved in a relegation battle in the group.
