Ireland release new home jersey and it is a stunning return to form

Patrick McCarry

A big improvement on last season’s number.

The new football season – and the steam train approach of the Uefa Nations League(!) – can only mean one thing…. a new Ireland jersey.

New Balance and the FAI are into the early days of their kit deal and they, in our opinion, went with a safe bet in 2017/18.

Nice, clean but nothing to get excited about.

We called it “underwhelming” at the time of its release and we are sticking by it.

2018/19 is upon us and New Balance has pushed the boat out.

The new home jersey, modelled by Shane Duffy, Alan Browne and Jeff Hendrick, is a peach. There is a crisp v-neck, subtle orange trim and a snazzy design to the green material.

With or without that giant sponsor’s logo, this kit works.

Seamus Coleman is looking good in the fresh gear too, even if he does not crack a smile.

We are looking forward to seeing the rest of this kit and the away strip, when it lands.

This is an encouraging start to the new range.
