Inter Milan wondergoal would never have been awarded to Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Some strike, in fairness

Tom Victor

Now, you’re not going to believe this after watching his goal from tonight, but Jeison Murillo is a defender.

He really is, we promise.

Can defenders score unstoppable bicycle kicks of the Andy Carroll variety? Yes. Should they even be trying to do so? Well that’s a different argument altogether.

Murillo, a 24-year-old Colombian who joined Internazionale from Granada in 2015, had yet to score all season when Stefano Pioli’s team welcomed Bologna to the San Siro.

Such a statistic might deter some players from trying speculative efforts on goal. Certainly it might deter a centre-back from letting rip with a first-time bike from around the penalty spot.

Well, aren’t you grateful it didn’t?

His full-throttle overhead was a sight to behold but it was dangerously close to his man-markers head. This might stand in Serie A but, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic discovered, does not in the Premier League:

To say people were stunned would be an understatement.

Simply outrageous. Over to you, Andy Carroll.
