Arsenal fans may start seeing that half empty glass a bit differently because of Petr Cech.
Barcelona’s lethal front three may be hitting some unworldly form, but Gooners will be hoping that their kryptonite will be standing between the posts. Cech’s record against Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez will make for pleasant reading for Arsenal fans.
Cech played in six appearances against Messi while he was Chelsea’s number one, with the Argentine failing to score a solitary goal in any of those matches, as the Mirror‘s Richard Innes notes. This includes the 2012 UEFA Champions League Semi-Final, which Cech forced a missed penalty from Barca’s talisman.
His record against Luis Suarez isn’t too shabby either, with the Uruguayan scoring just twice in five appearances against him while he has yet to play against Neymar.
This means that Cech has only conceded two goals in 11 appearances against Barca’s front three, although he has yet to face all three of them firing on all cylinders together. We’ll have to find out on Tuesday night whether the Czech keeper is up to the very daunting task.
