Ouch.
Germany’s hopes of winning this year’s European Championships have taken a major blow.
Ilkay Gungodan, the Borussia Dortmund midfielder, has dislocated his knee in training and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The terrible news was confirmed by his club this afternoon.
Gungodan has been linked with both Manchester clubs, with Pep Guardiola understood to have been especially keen on his services at City.
However, this knee injury is now likely to see him remain with Thomas Tuchels’ side until at least January of next year as he begins his recovery from the very serious injury.
The 25-year was understood to be keen to link up with Guardiola at the Etihad this summer, having refused to sign a new contract with his current side. His current deal runs out in 12 months.
He now faces at least six months out of action, which will be a double blow to Dortmund, and Germany.
