Arsene Wenger wins one trophy in a decade and he’s acting a bigg’un.
And Jose Mourinho isn’t having it.
The Arsenal manager was involved in a bout of casual trolling of the Chelsea boss at the weekend when he suggested that their 1-0 win was entirely predictable.
And yet, with Chelsea unbeaten in the league since the turn of the year, Wenger hardly has a leg to stand on if he’s looking to take swipes with the other one. The Gunners supremo instead came out and said that his side can be pragmatic as well.
No, really.
“Our job is to win football games,” Wenger said. “What’s important for me is to do what it takes to win the game [against Chelsea]. It’s easy to defend, if we have to defend then we will defend.”
But his Portuguese counterpart wasn’t going to let him off the hook, was he?
And Mourinho hit back at Wenger ahead of their clash tomorrow with a cutting response.
“It [defending] is not easy. Not easy.” the Blues manager stated. “If it was easy, he [Wenger] wouldn’t lose 3-1 at home to Monaco. If he defends well, he draws 0-0 against Monaco and wins in Monte Carlo. It’s not easy to defend.”
Wenger might be a football poet but, if defending is an art, he’s messing around with Mourinho’s canvas now.
