Thierry Henry’s new gig may be worth more than his MLS salary
Thierry Henry’s retirement announcement yesterday was intertwined with the news that he had signed up with Sky to be an analyst and ‘ambassador’.
Today, details of his new salary are reported in the Mail and they are frankly staggering.
They say that Henry put pen to paper on a six-year, £4m a year deal. That’s €5m a year to you and me.
In fact, that salary is actually an increase on his wages at New York Red Bulls, where he was on $5m a year, or €4m. With that sort of money on offer, why would he give coaching a go just yet.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the entire story is that Sky’s star man Gary Neville is on £1.2m (€1.5m) a year. Considering how well liked and respected Neville now is, we wonder if Henry is really worth three times the money?
If we were Gary, we’d be asking for a raise this morning.
