Has a referee’s assistant ever been this pumped for a game?
If you’re going to run the line and make questionable offside calls then you better bring your A-game.
Or at least brace yourself for a hell of a lot of abuse.
It was remarkable to see Eddie Smart mentally ready himself for Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
We thought Gary Neville was intense before a game, but he’s got nothing on this highly-strung lino.
Smart was assisting match referee Mike Dean for the ‘Super Sunday’ encounter at White Hart Lane, but looked ready to go 12 rounds with Anthony Joshua judging by his wide-eyed stare, neck exercises and generally pumped up demeanour.
It just goes to show how psyched you need to be to lift up that flag for offside…
