Harry Redknapp is wildly back-pedalling after slating Liverpool as ‘bang average’

That's not what i meant at all says 'Arry.

Harry Redknapp has spent the last week trying to remove his foot from his mouth.

In fairness, that is nothing new for the former Tottenham and West Ham manager. He annoyed a lot of Liverpool fans last week when he lashed into the club after their poor start to the season.

He was asked last week what he thought of Brendan Rodgers side and didn’t hold back in his assessment of the Reds.

“I think it’s the worst Liverpool team I have seen in years. They look bang average. They are lucky to have any points.”

Redknapp, however, has had a major change of heart. In his Kicca column, today, he tries to backtrack on his comments by explaining what he really meant.

“I got a bit of stick last week for saying I thought Liverpool were going to struggle to make the top four this season and that this is the worst Liverpool side for a few years.”

“It wasn’t meant as a dig as I am a big fan of both the club and Brendan Rodgers. If I could have a season ticket at one club it would be at Anfield. I love the atmosphere there and the football the Reds play. I was simply giving an honest answer to a simple question.”

The now TV pundit also explains that none of the bad results over the last 18 months are Brendan Rodgers fault as the club have been deprived of four of their best players in the last year-and-a-half:

“Two years ago I thought they deserved to win the league, they were that good. But since then they’ve lost their four best players. Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling and Steven Gerrard have moved on and Daniel Sturridge has been injured. I cannot think of any club or manager who could cope with that.

It’s not Brendan’s fault he’s lost the backbone of that great side he had 18 months ago, I feel for him.

I just think they’ve got a tough task to make it to the Champions League spots, that’s all.

We’re not so sure that Harry’s explanation will appease Liverpool fans and maybe he should follow this advice from the Simpsons,
