Maguire has fallen down the pecking order at United
Harry Maguire has been training with Chelsea legend Ricardo Carvalho three times a day as he prepares to fight for his future at Manchester United.
Maguire found his game time to be sporadic last season, slipping to fourth choice behind Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof, with Luke Shaw even occasionally preferred in the centre back role.
Maguire’s future has been up in the air and the 30-year-old has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford however the England international appears to be up for the fight and prove he is still a valuable part of Erik ten Hag’s plans.
The United captain has been pictured training alongside Carvalho and his teammate, Diogo Dalot, who have both been undergoing gruelling sessions in order to be prepared for the new season.
Reports have suggested that Maguire will be stripped of his role as club captain heading into the 2023/2024 campaign, with Bruno Fernandes in line to be his replacement.
United are also looking for a new number one goalkeeper following the official departure of David De Gea at the weekend, who said his farewell in an emotional social media post.
Andre Onana appears to be the number one candidate having worked under Ten Hag at Ajax before, with Fabrizio Romano previously stating that a deal could be agreed before the end of the week.
Onana is currently at Inter Milan but a move in excess of £50m could be made to see him reunite with Ten Hag and former Ajax teammate, Antony.
