If you’d have named the deadliest strikers in the Premier League at the start of the season, these three names probably wouldn’t have been top of your list.
You might have plumped for Chelsea’s Diego Costa or possibly Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.
But a relatively unknown French teenager, a Scottish midfielder and a defender who started out at Wycombe Wanderers? Na mate – jog on.
But so far the three deadliest players in the league in terms of shot conversion rates are Manchester United’s £58m ‘wonderkid’ Anthony Martial, Everton midfielder Steven Naismith and Norwich full back Russell Martin.
Martial bagged a brace against Southampton at the weekend, while Naismith became the first Premier League man everto notch a hat-trick against Jose Mourinho.
Even looking down the list you have to be surprised at names like Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson, and Leicester’s surprise Algerian package Riyad Mahrez who are joint top scorers with 5 goals each.
The big boys need to up their game.
