Sometimes, tone doesn’t translate to the world of Twitter.
But we still think Gordon D’Arcy was a tad gullible when he responded to Gary Lineker, a notorious tweeter who is not afraid to troll his followers, on the subject of Arsenal’s summer spending.
Lineker sarcastically posted a message, joking that the signing of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez was tantamount to purchasing the Premier League trophy in the way that previous winners Manchester City and Chelsea had been accused of doing in recent years.
Typical Wenger, trying to buy success. https://t.co/kyp8BHBKjq

In reality, Mustafi and Perez will not be considered title-winning signings by anyone and Arsenal fans’ frustration at the lack of big-name arrivals looks destined to continue.
But that went over D’Arcy’s head as the former Ireland and Leinster centre responded seriously to Lineker’s baiting.
The Leicester legend was only thrilled to learn that he had snagged such an unsuspecting individual.
And at that stage, what can one do but concede defeat?
D’Arcy wasn’t the first and certainly won’t be the last person who gets caught rotten by Lineker’s sarcastic ways on social media.
