Steven Gerrard looks set to hang up the boots and take up a managerial role.
The Liverpool legend was being linked with a return to his old club, he was being touted as Scottish football’s next big signing and just about everyone was interested in bringing the midfielder on board, 36 years of age or not.
But it seems that he could be about to join MK Dons.
As manager.
According to the BBC, Gerrard has been in contact with the League One club about the job left vacant by Karl Robinson, who succeeded Paul Ince back in 2010.
It is being reported that the former England skipper and the Milton Keynes club have already made contact with one another.
“Ex-England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and MK Dons have been in contact over the vacant manager’s role,” the BBC state in a brief update.
MK Dons were relegated from the Championship last season but haven’t exactly been looking likely to bounce straight back up, sitting 21st in League One now.
Of course, Gerrard’s rumoured leap into management has already started some Liverpool fans touting him to have a return to Anfield at some stage in the future, not that anyone would want to see Mr Klopp leave any time soon.
The move would represent Stevie G’s first non-playing role in football however and that, in itself, opens up a whole world of interesting possibilities.
Gareth Southgate is probably already feeling the pressure.
