Not a Premier League player in sight.
Juventus and Italy goalkeeper was asked to select his Champions League dream team and, in fairness to the man, he made a decent fist of it.
The 37-year-old, who has kept an impressive 17 clean sheets in Serie A this season, has gone with a 4-3-3 formation that contains seven team-mates, past and present, and some of La Liga’s finest.
He has Iker Casillas in goal and two former Juve defenders in his back four. The midfield is a mix of flair, Andrea Pirlo, fight, Pavel Nedved, and bite, Gennaro Gattuso. On Pirlo, Buffon declares:
‘One of the real footballing geniuses. It’s entertaining to watch team’s plans to stop him, and in a second he just destroys their plan with brilliance.’
Up front, in an attacking trident, are Brazilian Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and the Divine Ponytail himself, Roberto Baggio.
Gianluigi Buffon’s Dream Team
Interestingly, not a single Premier League player features in Buffon’s XI.
