Even one of the best goalkeepers in the world can’t help you if your defenders are on the beach in the first half.
Juventus found themselves 3-0 down inside half an hour at Genoa, but Gianluigi Buffon can’t really be blamed.
Two early strikes from Giovanni Simeone – son of Atlético Madrid boss Diego – were added to by an Alex Sandro own goal, but that doesn’t tell the whole story.
In other circumstances, we might be praising Buffon for a remarkable double save and Alex Sandro on the line for a desperate block. But the rest of Juve’s back-line had other ideas.

Luckily for Buffon, and for the Bianconeri, their spot at the summit of Serie A won’t be threatened by a defeat at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Perhaps we can put it down to a hangover from Tuesday’s hard-fought Champions League win at Sevilla, or even just ‘one of those days’.
But you wouldn’t want to make Gigi Buffon angry.
Here he is when someone pronounced his name wrong on the stadium PA system.

And here he is when someone asked him if he missed having long hair.

And, of course, that time someone called him ‘Luigi’ instead of ‘Gigi’.

We can see the hairs on the defenders’ necks standing up from here.
