It’s fair to say the Japanese second division isn’t known for its world class defending.
Control, grace, flair, these are all adjectives that should not be used for describing this ridiculous play from the J-League second division.
This clip comes from the opening day of the season as Tokyo Verdy drew 1-1 with Cerezo Osaka. The build-up to the games opening goal was a bit of a spectacle.
Tokyo Verdy’s Masaki Chugo made a well-timed run to beat the incredibly poorly-organised offside trap of the opposing team. However, when things started to fall apart when the diminutive midfielder received the ball inside the box.
Chugo got caught up in his own legs and fell down to the turf in a heap, but he wasn’t about to give up just yet. While desperately trying to find his footing like a new-born foal, Chugo beat a defender on the ground and cracked a half-volley across the goal to set up Alan Pinheiro.
