When elderly FFA boss Frank Lowy took a nasty tumble at the A-League Grand Final, everyone in the stadium gasped with horror… well, almost everyone.
Melbourne Victory’s celebrations after winning the A-League were put on hold for a few minutes as FFA boss Frank Lowy received treatment after he fell off the stage at AAMI Park.
The 84-year-old lost his footing as he made his way towards the A-League trophy fell about 5ft head first into the turf. Medics immediately rushed to his aid as the 29,000-strong crowd’s cheers turned to anxious gasps.
While a worried expression washed over his teammates’ faces, Fahid Ben Khalfallah found the situation amusing. We will cut him some slack and put it down to nervous laughter and the fact that the instinctive response to someone falling over in such a dramatic fashion is to laugh.
Check out the Melbourne forward’s reaction below.
After a few minutes, Lowy eventually got back to his feet, and smiled and waved to the crowd before presenting the trophy to the winning team, which was greeted by huge applause from the fans.
