Former Arsenal flop Gervinho was involved in a very bizarre incident after playing for the Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Cameroon last week.
AS Roma provided him with a private jet to return back to Italy after the match, but when the footballer arrived back at the airport to board his flight, he had some extra carry-on luggage. Apparently, the Ivorian tried to smuggle a blonde woman onto the plane and bring her back to Europe.
According to IMatin, Gervinho bribed four Ivorian airport workers to let him bring his companion on the flight, despite the fact that she was not supposed to be on it. It was only when Gervinho sought approval from the pilot to bring the extra passenger and was refused that his plan got thwarted.
The four workers who allegedly accepted the bribes have been fired from their posts.
The woman who Gervinho allegedly tried to smuggle onto the flight is pictured above.
