Jamie Carragher’s 39th birthday won’t go down in his memory as his favourite.
The legendary Liverpool defender was forced to sit through one of the lowest points of his former club’s season as he witnessed the Reds crash out of the second cup competition in three days.
Saturday afternoon saw Liverpool eliminated from the FA Cup at the fourth round stage courtesy of a 2-1 Wolves upset at Anfield, compounding an already atrocious month for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Liverpool only won one game since the turn of the year and that came in a replay against League Two outfit Plymouth Argyle but, other than that, it’s been a January to forget for Reds fans.
And it’s been a birthday to forget for Carragher, who insists he didn’t get a chance to see the defeat due to the fact that it was being shown on a rival broadcaster to his beloved Sky Sports.
Not seen any of the @LFC game as it wasn't on @SkySports & they don't allow me to watch other channels. Also my birthday so leave me alone!

A likely story!
But, fortunately for Carragher, his good friend Gary Neville was able to provide some helpful insight into the defeat to Paul Lambert’s men.
You were unlucky apparently . Another 5 mins you'd have scored.. happy birthday 🎉 https://t.co/FNU4FyLKOH

Neville’s birthday is not for another three weeks but we think it’s a pretty safe bet to say that Carragher won’t hesitate to get in touch with the former Manchester United full back if the Red Devils fail to get past Wigan in their fourth round clash on Sunday.
Because, after all, that’s what friends are for.
