Gary Neville: Man United players are ‘whinge bags’

Robert Redmond

“They’re a bunch of whinge bags.”

Gary Neville criticised the body language of Manchester United players during the team’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle United. Neville called the Red Devils players “whinge bags” and was heavily critical of their performance in the first half.

Man United went into half-time at St James Park on Monday night trailing 1-0 to the Magpies. Allan Saint-Maximin gave Newcastle the lead, and the away side had little response until Cavani equalised after 70 minutes.

Ralf Rangnick’s team had not played for 16 days before the Premier League fixture, due to a Covid outbreak in the squad, and they looked extremely rusty in the game.

At half-time on Monday Night Football, Neville was deeply unimpressed with the Man United players.

“You don’t want to go overboard, they’ve been off for 16 days, new manager, trying to get used to a new system,”said the former Red Devils defender.

“The balance in the side isn’t right. But I was worried after Norwich, there was no urgency, the basics of the game, every single battle they’ve lost.

“That’s a really poor performance there. They’ve not done one single thing right as a team, and not one single player can go in and say they’ve done their jobs, or even done themselves justice. No positives. Nothing.

“They’re whinging at each other! They’re a bunch of whinge bags! A bunch of whinge bags!

“Watch them on that pitch, honestly, arms in the air, complaining about everything!

“Honestly, they’re absolutely shocking out there in that first half. They got the last manager the sack!

“Ralf Rangnick is not going to get the sack, he’s only had a few weeks with them. But honestly, they’ll get a lot of managers the sack, that lot, if they carry on like that.

“They’ve played the two teams at the bottom of the league, and they’ve shown us nothing! Nothing to do with the management, by the way. It’s to do with the players out on the pitch. Not good enough.”
