Neville couldn’t help but react to the heated debate

Gary Neville took to Twitter to react to Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane’s heated debate after Manchester United’s draw at Chelsea.

Carragher and Keane were arguing about the role of Cristiano Ronaldo at United, particularly what he brings to the team.

The Portugal captain was a second-half substitute for the Red Devils, having been dropped to the bench after starting against Villarreal in the Champions League in midweek.

The decision to drop the forward is one that caused a heated debate between Carragher and Keane, but Neville – who was not present for the ‘discussion’ – took to Twitter to provide his opinion on what proved to be box-office television.

The former United defender clearly saw the funny side of the post-match chat, but it can probably be expected that should he have been in attendance, he would’ve taken the side of his former teammate.

Prior to kick-off, the 46-year-old admitted that he believed that the incoming Manchester United manager had a say in picking the starting line-up for the game against Chelsea.

The Sky Sports pundit believes that Rangnick – or whoever is appointed at Old Trafford – had a say in the team selection for the game at Stamford Bridge, writing on Twitter:

“A lot of people having a go at Michael Carrick for dropping Ronaldo and picking that MDF.

“I’ve a feeling the the incoming manager has picked that team as it’s a huge departure from midweek and what they’ve been doing.”

Ironically, the main talking point from the team news was the omission of Ronaldo – which is what sparked the argument between Keane and Carragher.
