Gary Neville didn’t pull any punches in his assessment of Arsene Wenger and Arsenal

'They're arrogant'

Overly harsh?

Monday Night Football is essential viewing for anyone with any interest in the hows and whys of Premier League football.

Match of the Day deals with the whos pretty well, but MNF excels at going beyond the superficial and in that regard Gary Neville is its star man.

The former Manchester United defender was joined by Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher for Monday’s Arsenal v Liverpool clash and Neville wasted no time in tearing into Arsene Wenger’s approach in recent seasons.

In particular Neville can’t get his head around why Wenger has failed to add power to the undoubted skill in his midfield.

“It’s the one big black mark I’ve got against Arsene Wenger in the last 10 years,” Neville said.

“It’s arrogance to think you can adapt your team to change to other team’s strengths.

“I believe it’s arrogance, why he [Wenger] won’t buy players of power to accompany his big players.

“Arrogance or naivety.”

In fairness to Neville he did say that, aside from Manchester United, Arsenal are the side he would most like to see win the Premier League, while he also praised Wenger for keeping the club in top four despite a net spend of less than £100m since 2004.
