Gary Neville has confirmed that his brother Phil will remain on the coaching staff at Valencia, in his first press conference as head coach of the Spanish club.
The former Manchester United captain also revealed that Miguel Angel Angulo, who he described as “a Valencia legend”, will also be heavily involved in running things, and that this was not a decision he made purely to “appease” locals.
The current Valencia under-19 academy coach, Angulo played more than 300 La Liga games for Los Che – many as captain – and was a member of the squad that made back-to-back Champions League finals in 2000 and 2001.
“I’ve spoken to many people and the respect he has from everybody is incredibly important,” Neville said of Angulo.
Although he was unveiled at the club’s Mestalla stadium on Thursday, Neville will take charge of his first Valencia game against Lyon in midweek.
