Gary Lineker slams behaviour of minority of Leicester fans in Madrid

Well said

JOE

By now, you’ve probably seen the footage of a minority of the Leicester fans in Madrid clashing with Spanish police in the city’s Plaza Mayor.

Footage of the confrontation was shared across social media in the hours before kick off. Bottles, flares and debris can be seen being thrown in the video, while a chant of ‘Gibraltar is ours, Gibraltar is ours, f**k off you Spanish bastards, Gibraltar is ours’ can also be heard.

Possibly in response to this (or another video which shows a group of Leicester fans singing the same ‘German Bombers’ song that English fans in Dortmund were condemned for singing during last month’s friendly with Germany), Gary Lineker took to his Twitter account to criticise those responsible.

Tweeting during the half-time interval of the game at the Vincente Calderon, Lineker said: ‘Just saw the footage of some Leicester fans behaving despicably in Madrid. The few idiots ruin it for the decent majority. Sickening.’

Spot on, Gary.

As he points out, the vast majority of those Leicester fans that have made the trip to the Spanish capital have done so with the intention of enjoying the biggest night in the club’s history and not becoming an embarrassment to their country.
