Rangers’ misery compounded by Gary Lineker’s harsh truth

The truth stings

Ben Kiely

Rangers have been knocked out of the Europa League.

Anyone who doesn’t follow the League of Ireland may be shocked that the Europa League has even begun. It has, but it’s already over for Rangers.

The Glasgow club has been booted out of the first qualifying stage after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Progres Niederkorn, a team who could only muster up a fourth place finish in the Luxembourg National Division last season.

Rangers were 1-0 up heading into the second leg, but two goals from the European minnows sent them packing back to Scotland on a 2-1 aggregate loss.

Understandably, a lot of people were taking the piss out of the Scottish Premiership outfit. The reason being, it’s absolutely gas that a team of Rangers’ stature lost to such a piss-poor team at the first hurdle of the competition.

There’s also the fact that this marked Rangers’ return to European football after six years away, plus it kick-starts manager Pedro Caixinha’s first full season at the helm of the club on the worst note possible.

Just in case the hilarity wasn’t obvious enough, Gary Lineker laid out the painful truth in plain English.

The truth hurts.
