It’s all set up for Jurgen Klopp to take the role.

Liverpool have reportedly made contact with the 48 year old former Borussia Dortmund manager over replacing Brendan Rodgers.

Klopp is the bookies favourite for the position, and will be a popular choice among Liverpool fans should he take over.

Times journalist Tony Barrett said on Newstalk’s Off the Ball tonight that Carlo Ancelotti would be interested in the role, but is aware that Klopp is the preferred candidate.

Frank de Boer is another manager who has been linked with the role, but has now ruled himself out of contention.Ajax Amsterdam v NEC Nijmegen - EredivisieThe Ajax manager told Dutch media that he will “stay at Ajax for the (rest of the) season.”

De Boer, who has won four Eredivisie titles in his five years in charge of Ajax, had only spoke about potentially taking a job in England last week.

“Liverpool and Newcastle – with supporters behind them – it is a fantastic environment to coach,” De Boer said, “but this year it is important for me to do well at Ajax and then we will see.”

The 45 year old also claimed that Liverpool had approached him before appointing Rodgers.

“Two years ago, I was very honoured that Liverpool asked me if I was interested in the job,” he said in 2014. “There were still was other candidates also. But I just signed a new contract and I said you are too early at this moment.”

However, it appears De Boer has missed his chance, and it’s now Klopp’s job to lose.
