Four strikers, one as a holding midfielder, picked in Garth Crooks’ team of the week

Madcap stuff

Garth Crooks needs to be made a Premier League manager.

The BBC pundit has made a fantastic habit of choosing ridiculous formations and eccentric selections for his team of the week.

Crooks loves a good attacking team, so much so that he just packs his own with as many strikers as humanly possible.

Last year, he picked a bizarre 3-1-1-5 team with five strikers playing up front.

This week’s selection is slightly more sensible with just the four forwards on the pitch but the former Spurs man caused quite the stir with his decision to play Watford’s Troy Deeney, an out-and-out striker, as a holding midfielder.

The online reaction was understandably one of disbelief, incredulity but, at the same time, adoration for Crooks’ continued craziness.
