We expect to see a lot of schoolkids giving this strange training habit a whirl.
If you’ve ever wondered how Luis Suarez turned into one of the greatest strikers in world football, perhaps this simple training ground trick has something to do with it. Although we doubt it.
Suarez’s former Liverpool teammate Danny Wilson, currently at Rangers, was asked about the enigmatic Uruguayan forward in an interview with Rangers TV and the young defender revealed that Suarez would train with a self-imposed impediment.
“Every day Suarez trained and you see he’s one of the best now, so it’s got to be him,” Wilson said.
“The strange thing was he never used to tie his boots when he was training.”
Why would a player not tie his boots in training?
Perhaps it’s based in the rationale that if he can work through the hindrance of having his boots untied on the training pitch, then he would find matchday significantly easier.
Who knows?
But don’t be surprised to see impressionable schoolkids giving it a go.
Hopefully they just stop short of biting one another. Because that’s no way to make friends.
