Oh how the mighty (sort of) have fallen.
Just over six years ago, Dossena put the cherries on top of two famous Liverpool wins in the space of four days. On a Tuesday evening, he capped off a 4-0 win against Real Madrid in the Champions League second round, before lobbing Edwin van der Sar late on as Liverpool utterly humiliated Manchester United 4-1 at Old Trafford.
Well six years on from those heady performances, Dossena has found himself arrested on suspicion of shoplifting from the famous shop, Harrods in London.
Dossena, along with is girlfriend were both arrested in the famous department store, and bailed pending a further investigation.
A police statement read: “Police arrested a 33-year-old male and a 31-year-old woman on April 7 on suspicion of shoplifting at Harrods. They were taken to a west London police station. Both the man and woman have been bailed to a date in late April, pending further enquiries.”
However, it all seems to have been a bit of a mix-up, with the player’s agent Federico Pastorello releasing a statement from Dossena which claimed it was all an innocent mix-up.
“In regard to the news released today on some websites, I would like to make very clear that the story reported is unfounded.
“I was in Harrods with my wife and my son for some shopping and I forgot to pay a honey jar and some sliced meats we had previously ordered. While exiting the shop unaware of my oversight, I was stopped by security guards [who] then called the police as a standard routine procedure.
“As I wasn’t carrying with me any identity documents at the time, I was asked to go to the nearest police station in order to be identified after which I left and went back home. Hence, I have now instructed my lawyers to protect my image with all necessary legal actions against those who reported this inaccurate and tendentious news.”
Dossena’s arrest led to some predictable jokes with former Liverpool midfielder taking the bait and going in studs up with this effort…

Dossena’s career has plummeted in recent years. He left Napoli in 2013 for Sunderland, but hardly played in over 12 months at the club.
Since November, he’s been playing for Leyton Orient, who are hovering above the League One relegation zone on goal difference.
