Right place, wrong time, great story.
First up, we wish Alice Woodyatt all the best with her recovery.
The PE teacher was behind the Exeter City goal, earlier this month, as David Wheeler, her boyfriend, warmed up for a game against Northampton Town.
The 24-year-old winger took a pop at goal and, as Exeter players occasionally do, missed the target.
In an act of unfortunate serendipity, his piledriver struck Woodyatt’s wrist – breaking it.
The recuperating Woodyatt spoke to The Sun about the incident.
She commented, ‘I love to watch David play for Exeter and took all of my family to the game – including my granddad, who is David’s biggest fan.
‘David didn’t know the ball had hit me and I didn’t want to make a fuss.
‘I didn’t realise how bad it was straight away so I sat and watched the first half – but by the second half I thought maybe something had happened.’
Like a bloody hero, though, Woodyatt stayed on to watch the whole game before scooting off to the A&E.
Exeter lost 3-0.
That, right there, is love.
