Darijo Srna’s hero status is expanding.

The Croatian, blessed with a first team slot on our All-Time Football Manager XI, has gone from cult hero, to fan favourite, to charitable, loveable son of a gun.

The Shakhtar Donetsk captain has made a hefty contribution to the Let’s Help Children project in Ukraine by buying 20 tonnes of tangerines from Croatia and covering the costs of delivery to Donbass, for the kids who have found themselves in the war zone.

Yesterday, students started to receive the presents shipped in by Srna and, throughout the week, lorry-loads will continue to wheel in more supplies to schools across the city along with a greeting card from the Donetsk skipper who will have helped over 23,000 children.

What a guy.
