Floodlights failure causes Besiktas-Spurs to turn into an intimate concert

Turkish football fans have never seemed so gentle

Turkish fans are famous for generating quite the atmosphere at games, but it’s not often things get as romantic as this.

With Spurs in town for this evening’s Europe League game against Besiktas, the match had to be temporarily suspended when the floodlights gave up, plunging the stadium into darkness.

But the fans in the stadium decided to try do their bit to help, whipping out their phones and turning on the flashes, which made for some pretty atmospheric images.

And with time running out and Besiktas leading 1-0, the Turkish electricians indulged in some pretty spectacular time-wasting efforts in a bid to get the game called up early.

Alas, they played out the final moments of the game after another lengthy delay, and the Turkish side held out to finish top of Group C.
