The Donegal side have no intention of just making up the numbers next season in the SSE Airtricity League.
After their dramatic promotion/relegation play-off win at the start of this month over Limerick FC, the club have announced a major signing that they hope will see them cope with the biggest clubs in Ireland’s top flight.
Former Manchester United starlet Ryan McConnell has put pen to paper on a deal with the Ballybofey outfit for 2016, which is seen a major coup for the minnows.
McConnell spent three seasons at Old Trafford and captained the U21 side before suffering a serious groin injury and being released by the club earlier this summer.
The 20-year-old is from Donegal originally. When he was released by the English giants in the summer he was initially hopeful of securing a new deal in in England.
McConnell was invited to continue training with Manchester United for pre-season to keep up his fitness and he’s now inked a deal with the Donegal side for the next 12 months
That was not the only major signing announced by the club on Thursday night. Four of the promotion winning side, including Kevin McHugh, Ciaran Coll, Gareth Harkin and Tony McNamee have all inked deals to continue with the club next season.
