Fernando Torres didn’t do himself any favours explaining why he left Chelsea

Fernando Torres has been, perhaps undeservedly, the butt of many jokes over the past few years. However, it’s difficult to defend the Spaniard when he comes out with quotes like this.

Torres Fernando AC Milan

Torres never quite hit the goal-scoring heights he enjoyed at Anfield to justify his whopping £50 million transfer fee. Once the London club signed the lethal Diego Costa from Athletico Madrid during the summer, Torres found himself surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

He is currently serving a two-year prison sentence loan spell at AC Milan after three and a half underwhelming years at Chelsea. Many speculated that he left the Blues after falling out with Jose Mourinho. However, his actual reason for leaving is far more embarrassing.

Mourinho has always been good to me. The decision to leave was a personal one because I needed more, I needed to feel important.

It seems El Nino is content being a slightly bigger fish in arguably a slightly smaller pond.
