Fernando Forestieri scores goal of the season contender

Jack O'Toole

Sheffield Wednesday forward Fernando Forestieri scored a screamer of an equaliser during the Owls’ trip to Carrow Road on Friday night.

Forestieri attempted to drive by his defender, unsuccessfully, before winning the ball back, turning, and launching a shot into the top corner from distance to draw his side level after Marco Stiepermann gave the hosts the lead.

Norwich had the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Championship to seven points following Leeds United’s 2-1 loss to Wigan earlier on Friday but a second-half goal from Steven Fletcher ensured Wednesday would leave with a draw after a 97th minute equaliser from Mario Vrancic.

The title race is still very much alive in the Championship but Leeds United manager Marcelo Biesla admitted that his side’s loss to Wigan was a serious wound to their chances of automatic promotion to the Premier League.

“Any explanation that I could give, would be meaningless,” said Bielsa.

“It is not a game that you can analyse, because you have games like this that you have to win.

“The result tells a lot about me and condemns seriously my work.

“You have no explanation that could justify a loss like this, it was a game we had to win and it was a game that we could win and we didn’t win it.

“Everything can happen in football, but today only one thing had to happen and that was that we had to win.

“When you analyse, you describe the game, but I don’t want to do that, because there is no explanation for a loss like this.

“This is a very serious wound in the worst moment and the only relief we can have is to get promoted, what we’ve done so far is not enough.

“I am very sad, but I am full of motivation and I’m ready to work again immediately in these games.”
