John Delaney and co aren’t taking any chances.
Martin O’Neill is reportedly set to be offered a huge pay increase to stay in charge of the Republic of Ireland.
The Derry man’s current contract expires after the Euros in France this summer but speculation has been mounting about his future with the international set-up.
O’Neill said during the week that he would be speaking soon with John Delaney, the FAI Chief Executive, about a potential contract extension with the country.
“I saw John Delaney on Friday,” he confirmed on Monday. “He said that we would sit down over the next couple of weeks which we intend to do.”
The Irish Sun are reporting that the FAI are ready to increase O’Neill’s current annual salary of €1m by “up to 50 per cent.”
The new contract would see the manager through until the end of the World Cup 2018 campaign and, with a European championship and a world title under the country’s belt by that stage, O’Neill could write his demands on a blank cheque.
