The Russians don’t mess about.

Leicester City surprised us all on Monday by announcing that everyone’s favourite ex-Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri had been appointed as their new boss .

Martin O’Neill missed the boat it seems, but if the club had held on for just 24 hours more, they could have appointed another Italian instead.

The Russian Football federation have confirmed that they have sacked Fabio Capello this morning, with the former Real Madrid manager receiving over €15million for his troubles.

“The Russian Football Union and head coach of the Russian national team, Fabio Capello, have reached an agreement to terminate his contract by mutual consent.”

It’s believed he was due to be paid €30 million having agreed a new deal after the World Cup but is now unemployed again.

The country are hosting the 2018 World Cup, but have suffered several poor results recently and failed to win a single game at last year’s tournament in Brazil

Capello was under increasing pressure after poor performances in the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign but it now seems he has scooped quite a tidy sum for his efforts over the last three years.

Of course Twitter showed its sympathetic side as ever to the Italian.
