EXCLUSIVE: Dele Alli only makes the bench in his own Premier League team of the season

It's quite Tottenham-heavy...

He made it into the PFA Premier League Team of the Year and was the standout candidate for the Young Player of the Year award, too.

But Dele Alli says he’d only make it to the bench in his personal pick for this season’s best team.

Alli spoke to SportsJOE at the launch of the EA SPORTS FIFA 16 Ultimate Team – Barclays Premier League Team of the Season, breaking just after he’d started naming his team to inform us it would be pretty Tottenham-heavy.

“I’d have Hugo Lloris in goal, right-back Kyle Walker, Jan Vertonghen (at this point Dele laughs at the realisation that he is just naming a Tottenham 11, which we assure him is fine) and Toby Alderweireld in central defence, and I’m going to go for Danny Rose at left-back,” Alli tells JOE.

“I’ll go 4-4-2, so I’ll have Riyad Mahrez right-mid, Mousa Dembélé and Eric Dier centre-mid, Dimitri Payet left-mid and Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy up front.”

We did think his exclusion was a bit harsh, but the Spurs maestro said he would have a place among the hypothetical substitutes, ready to come on and grab a winner if required. Not a bad option to have.
