Ex-Manchester United stars rave about Paul Pogba’s performance

Jack O'Toole

Former Manchester United Champions League winners Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves have praised midfielder Paul Pogba for his two goal performance in United’s 3-0 win over Young Boys on Wednesday.

Jose Mourinho’s side kicked off their Champions League campaign with a comprehensive 3-0 win over the Swiss side with Pogba netting a first-half brace before assisting Anthony Martial for United’s third goal just after the hour mark.

Scholes insists that it is essential that Pogba continues to play passes forward and follow up his balls in a similar vein to how he scored his opening goal against Young Boys.

“With a player of that much ability, the size of him, the physical strength and the speed of him… he should be doing that every week,” said Scholes.

“If he passes the ball forward and runs… nobody in the world will be able to live with him.”

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand agreed and praised Pogba for his immense talent.

“What’s great is I think a lot of midfielders these days play simple and play sideways but he played forward and followed his pass,” said Ferdinand. “This boy has got talent coming out of every pore.”

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho added that Pogba helped increase the pace and did a good job of keeping possession in the win.

“Yeah good performance,” said Mourinho.

“I felt he tired in the last part of the game that’s why I took him off but he was solid, class, giving the team pace, that we need sometimes, but he increased the pace and kept the possession. Of course, very good goal.”
