Everyone laughed when Wayne Rooney revealed who his son’s favourite England striker is

It must be hard for Wayne Rooney being out of the England side.

But it must be just as hard knowing your son wants another striker’s name on the back of his jersey.

Rooney was in the studio for England’s pre-Euro 2016 friendly against Holland and the panel picked up on it.

While discussing England and Leicester forward Jamie Vardy’s scintillating form this season, they picked up that his son Kai was a bit of a fan.

Rooney gingerly admitted that his own lad had begged him to get Vardy on the back of his England shirt.

Ian Wright’s reaction said it all…

With Vardy and Spurs striker Harry Kane in red hot form for club and country, Rooney knows he’s got a fight on his hands to bag a starting place at Euro 2016 – even more so after Roy Hodgson’s young charges put Germany to the sword in impressive fashion.

He told ITV: “As I have said throughout my career at Man United and England I never take my place for granted.

“Obviously you want to play, and it is great that competition is there. The quality we have got, it is exciting to be part of it.

“I can’t wait to get fit and be back out there with the lads. It is something I enjoy doing and I want to keep doing and I want to keep going and get ready.”
