Everyone is making the same joke as Manchester City’s Champions League clash is rained off

It's a bit wet at the Etihad...

Ben Kenyon

It’s pouring down in Manchester.

There’s nothing new there – after all, the home of Oasis and the Stones Roses isn’t known as the ‘Rainy City’ for nothing.

But it has been really throwing it down as torrential rain and thunderstorms swept across the north west of England, leaving Manchester looking more like Venice.

The September weather conditions were so bad that it has kiboshed Manchester City’s Champions League opener against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Just 20 minutes before the game was due to kick off and officials called it off due to a waterlogged pitch…and you can’t blame them…

While the rain didn’t deter the German fans who made the trip to Manchester from stripping off and enjoying the weather, there was no other option other than to call the game off.
