Football fans are so fickle – or at least their jokes are.
Celtic’s incredible 69-game undefeated run in domestic football came to an end on Sunday as the Bhoys lost 4-0 away to Hearts. It had to end at some point, but it was still a shock to see the champions and the all-conquering Scottish outfit lose by such a margin.
When something like that happens, voids open up and an empty void will be filled – even by the most obvious jokes.
The creative geniuses on Twitter decided to take the opportunity to call for Brendan Rodgers’ head. A harmless enough joke but out of date after about a minute – well, we hope it was a joke anyway.
69 game unbeaten means fuck all, yer only as good as yer last game. #RodgersOut #Celtic 👎👎👎

When Celtic lost 4-0 to St Mirren Tony Mowbray was rightly sacked. What's Brendan's excuse? #Rodgersout #standards

Celtic expect to win every domestic game they play, as they should with their squad. But we all have off days and theirs had to come eventually.
They are of course the biggest and richest club in Scotland but Brendan Rodgers has achieved with them is nothing short of fantastic. An invincible treble is a spectacular achievement with any team, and it’s not only silverware that Rodgers has brought to Parkhead.
The Antrim man has coaching pedigree and you can see it in the playing style he has given this Celtic side. He’s also bled through youth products such as Kieran Terney, reignited the creative spark in Scott Sinclair after his failed move to Man City, and turned Stuart Armstrong into a Scotland starter.
So maybe it was a bit harsh of the suggest that this is the end of the road for the Brodge.
