Tell us what you really think.
Say what you want about Eamon Dunphy, but he could never be accused of bias. The outspoken RTE pundit is as comfortable dismissing the quality of Manchester United as he is Liverpool, Arsenal or, in this case, Manchester City.
Dunphy was on 2FM’s GameOn earlier this evening, reviewing the weekend’s Premier League action and discussing who could potentially win what has developed into a very open race.
The former Millwall and Republic of Ireland midfielder thinks Arsenal will be champions, but only because they’re not as bad as City, who Dunphy referred to as “dummies.”
“They [Arsenal] don’t seem to me at the moment to be a title winning side, and neither do Manchester City.”
“City were awful. I think when Arsenal get their players back, [Santi] Cazorla, [Jack] Wilshere, and [Alexis] Sanchez in particular, I think they will finish the season like a train and probably win it.”City played out a 2-2 draw away to West Ham on Saturday, and rivals Arsenal lost 1-0 at home to Chelsea the following day, after defender Per Mertesacker got sent-off in the first half.
The German is a “liability”, according to Dunphy, but the pundit reserved his most stinging criticism for City.
“City were a disgrace against West Ham, an absolute disgrace. The second goal West Ham scored was a long throw which bounced over [Nicolas] Otamendi’s head and he cost €35million”
“You wouldn’t see it in the Phoenix Park. If you did the guy would be hauled off straight away.”
“They [City] bought all these dummies. Don’t forget Mangala, who cost €40million, wasn’t even in the team. Fernando and Fernandinho were also absent.”
“The Manchester City story is worse than The Great Train Robbery.”
Never change, Eamon.
